Printing Requirements

How to Layout and Prepare Your Print Files

These are general requirements. Exceptions may apply to certain print files and updates may be made to improve the process, in which case we will provide additional information promptly.

The price of packaging material does not include “silver print” or “gold print” or other printing options that are not specified by this document. Special coatings other than standard coatings and lamination may result in price increases.

If any revisions (amendments or changes) are requested by the customer, Bluestone Pharma (BSP) will notify of potential price adjustments before artwork approval.

In short

General Conditions

  • Use the final updated version of dieline templates
  • Image color model is CMYK or Pantone® or Grayscale
  • Cut and folding lines must be in separate solid colors or a separate layer, set to “overprint” and must not be used anywhere else in the artwork.
  • Carefully review the print preview (for example, using the “Print Preview” tool in Acrobat Pro) before sending the files to BSP to avoid common issues such as a mismatched color profile (RGB vs. CMYK) during PDF export.

Product Barcode

A barcode (usually GTIN-13) is mandatory on commercial packaging. Please make sure to include the barcode. If you want BSP register a code for you, please let us know, we will manage.

Primary Packaging – Flexo Printing

Due to the delivery format and technical printing processes for back foil and sachets, there is a minimum order quantity. Depending on the quantity ordered by customers, we may have leftover foil in stock for follow-up orders. If the artwork changes, any disposal of the foil will incur costs that we will have to charge for. Please take this into account when designing the back or sachet foil.

Sachet Foil

  • Use up to 5 colors, preferably Pantone colors, but use as few as possible. For detailed multi-color images, use the CMYK color model. Contact us before creating the artwork to discuss price changes.
  • The dielines show where the batch number and expiration date go. The "Batch Number" and "Expiration Date" labels must be included in the print template as shown in the die templates.
  • We will print the "batch number," "manufacturing date," and "expiration date" on each box during production. The standard date format is mm.YYYY (e.g., "04.2025"). If you require a different format, please let us know.
  • The whole artwork must fit within the printable area (white on the dielines). Leave spaces outside the printable area unprinted; press's high heat can damage ink.
  • The artwork must fit within the printable area (white space on the dielines). Keep the marked space outside the printable area white; the high heat seal of the press can cause slight ink damage.
  • The marker is black by default, but use a darker color if black isn't used.
  • Minimum object size > 0.25 mm
  • Minimum line weights min. 0.5 pt / 0.18 mm
  • All gray and yellow areas must remain blank!

Blister Foil

  • A maximum of 1 Pantone® colors can be used.
  • The back foil's layout must be a continuous pattern. The machine may not punch precisely at the marked position.
  • Minimum object size > 0.25 mm
  • Minimum line weights min. 0.5 pt / 0.18 mm

Tuck Boxes – Offset printing

  • Minimize color use to streamline the printing process and prevent unnecessary cost increases.
  • Use up to 5 colors; use CMYK plus one Pantone. Use multiple Pantone colors instead of CMYK, but contact us for price changes.
  • Tuck box coating options:
    [1] Standard coating (regular),
    [2] Standard coating (glossy),
    [3] Lamination (matte or glossy),
[4] Separate UV varnish on matte lamination or regular coating.
  • Elements to be partially coated must be specified as overprinting spot color with corresponding designation. Hue must be set to 100%.
  • We will add the “batch no.”, “manufacturing date” and “expiry date” on each box. The standard date format is mm.YYYY (e.g. “04.2025”). If you require another format please let us know.

Leaflet

We offer inserts in ‘optimal size’ and ‘maximum size’. We prefer a single-colour design (black or Pantone) or, alternatively, CMYK.

Packaging Material Identification

You may need to place the packaging material identification on the product boxes, in accordance with Commission Decision 97/129/EC. Our packaging materials are identified using the European packaging material coding system to support correct sorting and recycling.

The following material codes are used in our product packaging:

PAP 20 Corrugated cardboard used for product tuck boxes / folding carton (270–295 g/m²)
